For only the second time since Wrestle Enigma’s inception will Ring of Honor be the focal point of a Wrestle Enigma Debate, where writers from our website give their opinions on a number of topics, ranging from upcoming events, matches, impending returns or departures, storyline twists, swerves and progressions; basically, you name it and we probably have discussed it.
For this debate, four writers have joined myself as we discuss a number of topics, such as the Top Prospect Tournament, upcoming matches over the course of the impending ROH 12th Anniversary Weekend, the on-going feud between ROH World Champion Adam Cole and “Real” World Champion Jay Briscoe, potential breakout stars, who should Truth Martini’s net client be, the big HonorCon announcement and much more.
Before we get into this debate however, to familiarize yourself with the recent goings on in Ring of Honor, I advise you to check out the latest review of Ring of Honor Wrestling by Alex Steel, which featured a big Three Way Tag Team match in the main event, plus the published individual match breakdowns for the 12th Anniversary Show which I have linked to below.
Hero Looks to Complete His Return and Dethrone ROH Champion Adam Cole
As Adam Cole and Matt Hardy stood in the ring as the conclusion of Final Battle seemed imminent, a dark cloud fell over New York City for those in attendance, as the final image they would see of ROH in 2013, was that of Hardy and Cole standing tall, ROH World Championship in their possession, having pulled off their plan to perfection.
Until the sun broke through those clouds, and a Hero returned to Ring of Honor.
Briscoe Defends His “Real” Championship Against Bennett And His “New” Finisher
Take a look into the eyes of Jay Briscoe for just a moment; what do you see? You see a grizzled wrestling veteran, a hard-working blue collar worker, a tattooed bearded smoking country boy, and a world champion; above all else, he is a man and conducts himself as one. Sure, he can be just as angry and loudmouthed as any bitter person could be but Briscoe separates himself by believing in the honor his employing promotion is built on.
Michael Elgin’s Journey to the Title Starts with Matt Hardy
2013 was a big year for Michael Elgin. Laying claim to the best win-loss record in Ring of Honor, and being part of some of the promotion’s best matches, the Unbreakable One’s only black mark was not becoming ROH World Champion. With that in mind, Elgin has started 2014 by claiming that the ROH ring belongs to him.
Heading into the 12th Anniversary show, Elgin has been on a bit of a rampage.
Silas Young and Matt Taven Set To Give Fans a Glimpse at Tomorrow
Snarling. Furrow-browed. Old-school. Pissed off. These are all adjectives you can use to describe Silas Young. After a memorable strap match victory over Mark Briscoe at Final Battle 2013, Young looks set to have a major 2014. More than anything, he seems primed to become one of the top heels in Ring of Honor.
Lethal Challenges Styles as Two Parallel Careers Meet at a Crossroads
In the wrestling business, careers often run parallel to one another. Men who got into the business around the same time don’t always have the same success that the other does, even when both men are each others equals within the squared circled. Perception paints a picture of either grandeur or incredibility based on the cards one draws in his career.
This comparison is perhaps most appropriate for AJ Styles and Jay Lethal.
Kevin Steen and Cliff Compton Cause a State of Emergency
When Kevin Steen and Cliff Compton go to war in an unsanctioned Philly Street Fight on February 21 at ROH’s 12th Anniversary show, there will be three things being celebrated:
So, now with that out of the way, lets move forward into the Ring of Honor WE Debate.
